Move over honeymoon and babymoon, young people are going on the “mobilemoon”

According to a survey done by Expedia, 33 percent of American travelers would rather take their cellphone on a trip than a travel companion. About 80 percent of Millennial travelers and 83 percent of Gen Z, “prefer the freedom of traveling alone and meeting new people over the desire to have a vacation companion.” According to Travel + Leisure, the motivation to travel seems to have shifted from having shared experiences with friends or with a partner to the rediscovery of oneself.

Low alcohol beverages and more meat alternatives in the 2020 food trend forecast

A group of 50 experts on the Whole Foods Market team put together a report predicting the biggest food trends of 2020. Some highlights include alcohol-free beverages and a new-take on kids’ foods like sushi and veggie-based pasta. Combination meat and plant protein foods like beef and mushroom burgers are becoming more popular as consumers want to eat more sustainably without giving up meat completely. Brands are also looking to use creative sources of alternate sweeteners from foods like dates and pomegranates, as well as butters and spreads implementing flavors like watermelon seed and sweet chickpea.

How Flight-Shaming is Changing the Travel Industry

According to Forbes, over 4 billion passengers will get on an airplane this year. Air travel is responsible for nearly 3% of all global carbon emissions and is expected to grow at a rate of 3.5% per year. A group of European “flight-shamers” are currently working to promote awareness of the effects of air travel on climate change and encourage travelers to look for alternative ways to get from place to place. Some of the ways travelers can combat carbon-emissions from air-travel are: taking advantage of other forms of transportation like trains, travel closer to home, pack lighter or consider if a video meeting would suffice in place of business travel. When flying is unavoidable, travelers can consider donating to one of the many programs that offset part of the carbon footprint from their flights.
